Diabetes and Foot Care: Essential Prevention
Foot complications are one of the most common reasons for hospital admissions among people with diabetes. According to the WHO, high blood glucose can cause nerve damage (neuropathy) and poor blood flow, making it hard for wounds to heal.
The Daily Routine:
- Inspection: Use a mirror to check the bottoms of your feet for cuts, blisters, or redness.
- Cleanliness: Wash and dry your feet carefully, especially between the toes.
- Moisturize: Keep skin soft to prevent cracking, but don't put lotion between toes.
Never walk barefoot, even indoors, to avoid small injuries that could lead to infections.
